It's what it says on the tin: people sharing bikes! The bicycles are owned by the community and all are free to use them. This model allows us to maximize the number of people cycling on our streets for a minimal expenditure of resources. We hope these bicycles can help you get where you need to be in a way which is safe for you, the community, and the environment.
Please ride responsibly and ensure that your bicycle is in rideable condition prior to riding.
This bike share began from 20 bikes that were rescued from the University of Michigan cops after the brutal encampment raid. Take Back Bikes is continuing the legacy of these bikes and the memory of the encampment.
Take things into your own hands and find, decorate, and repair bikes for the bike share. No one owns this project. If you want to get connected with the folks that started Take Back Bikes, contact TakeBackBikes@protonmail.com.
If you'd like, you can stay updated through the Instagram or donate to help the project, too!
